“9th Saxon Citrus Days”

300 years have passed since August Christoph, Count of Wackerbarth, purchased a manor that had been destroyed by fire in Grosssedlitz and proceeded to develop his own plans for a country palace with a baroque garden. His retreat at the gates of Dresden was an extraordinary estate from the very beginning. The moving topography of the area was developed and designed as a succession of garden spaces using large paths. Count Wackerbarth placed great emphasis on the functional and sophisticated horticulture of the manor and garden, which was supposed to generate additional income.

The rich orangery and garden culture of this era will be the main theme of our event held in the orangeries of the Baroque Garden. The main focus will be on the exhibition of historic citrus varieties with their shiny leaves, fragrant flowers and strange fruits. We’ll present the cultivation of the orangery plants that might have originally adorned the Baroque Garden. The topic will be complemented by a sales exhibition with products related to orangery culture. Visitors will be able to buy citrus plants, planters, books, essential oils and lots more! The program will be rounded off with advice from citrus gardeners, a tasting session with citrus fruits, and various themed tours and expert talks.

The exhibitors will have exquisite goods related to orangeries, citrus and gardening, such as orangery plants, gardening tools, citrus specialties, gardening books and lots more.

Free guided tours on both days:
11:00 am Children’s tour »Of Beehives and Golden Apples«
1:00 pm / 2:00 pm / 3:00 pm Park tour »History and Stories of the “Versailles of Saxony”«

The event will mainly take place in the Upper Orangery.
